Cherokee County 4-H Families and Friends:

As you know, North Carolina 4-H halted all face-to-face 4-H programming back in March in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The plan has been to start back up with face-to-face programs once we reached PHASE 3 of Governor Cooper’s plan, that time has arrived!

While we are excited to be able to start back with our 4-H programs, there are protocols that must be followed to help ensure the safety of our 4-H members, volunteers, and Extension agents. Please take a look below to see how we will begin face-to-face 4-H programming in Cherokee County.

width="308" height="237"
What this means:

  • Although NC 4-H is allowing face-to-face programs to begin, each county will be offering programs slightly different to comply with their county’s rules.
  • All 4-H Volunteers, who are offering face-to-face programs, must complete a training prior to the program. The training is required and will go over the specific COVID-19 protocols that must be followed.
  • We will slowly begin to offer programs that have been approved by the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Cherokee County Center.
  • Programs will be open to all ages of 4-H youth…not just 11 and older as was discussed initially.
  • We will still be offering virtual programs to our 4-H families, schools, and community partners.
  • Families can make their own decision whether or not they are ready to begin face-to-face programming.

What this does not mean:

  • This does not mean all 4-H programs will be face-to-face as they were pre-COVID-19. Like we stated earlier, this will be a slow transition while we offer programs that can easily follow NC 4-H’s protocol. We hope to transition to our pre-COVID-19 programming when the time is right.
  • This does not mean any parent, volunteer, or supporter can begin offering face-to-face 4-H programming as they wish. Please remember…anyone offering a face-to-face 4-H program must complete the required training specific to our reopening plan and get prior approval from the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Cherokee County Center for the event.
  • This does not mean we will be providing transportation and lodging for 4-H events. Any 4-H programs requiring travel and an overnight stay, such as contests and retreats, will be the responsibility of the family to handle.

Please know that we are as anxious as you to start things back up and see our 4-H friends and families again. We will need everyone’s cooperation to make this happen, so we can Learn by Doing again!!
