NC State Extension’s Local Food Program Team is preparing a series of feature publications of agritourism operations around the state. In 2021 there will be fourteen of these publications, with articles on agritourism activities ranging from small on-farm workshops to corn mazes attended by thousands. These publications provide a description of the business enterprise, the development of the business concept, pricing, and marketing decision-making, as well as how these farms have leveraged resources and limited their liability.

Since 2018 the agritourism publications have been used as educational tools for the Local Food Program Team’s Agritourism Curriculum (available as an agent resource only), but the team has recently decided to make them available to the general public. The first publication we are releasing for general circulation features Allied Organic Farms in Hurdle Mills, NC. Owned and operated by Tom and Linda Savage, Allied Organic Farms is a working farm, specializing in ethnic vegetable production and offering a variety of workshops, special holiday events, on-farm dinners, and venue opportunities for churches, businesses, family reunions, and other groups wanting to experience the great outdoors while learning about agriculture.
