The mission of Tourism Extension is to support individuals and communities develop healthy, prosperous and enduring tourism enterprises and destinations.

Our Purpose:
We seek to provide programs, resources and assistance to Extension Agents and tourism stakeholders across and beyond North Carolina to enhance tourism strategies that nourish community development and resource conservation.

Tourism Extension includes specialists Dr. Carla Barbieri, Dr. Duarte Morais and Dr. Whitney Knollenberg, and Ann Savage. Carla Barbieri specializes in sustainable tourism and agritourism. Duarte Morais specializes in sustainable community development and heads the People-First Tourism program. Whitney Knollenberg specializes in tourism leadership and stakeholder engagement. Ann Savage specializes in destination development, outdoor recreation and rural tourism. Learn more about our programs.
