lighthouse sunsetKarly Bitsura-Meszaros and Matthew Jurjonas are intercepting tourists on their way to the beach and historic lighthouses of the Outer Banks this summer. They will be asking tourists to take a survey to assess where they are going and what they are doing in both the OBX and IBX regions of NC. Questions also capture tourists’ perceptions on how beach management strategies and storm impacts might change their travel plans. Survey results will be used to suggest IBX tourism opportunities. Karly and Matt will be in the area for a total of 20 days intercepting visitors on the Swan Quarter–Ocracoke Ferry, at the Tyrrell mapCounty Visitor Center, and at the National Wildlife Refuge Visitor’s Center in Manteo, NC.

This survey is part of the SALT research project funded by the NC State College of Natural Resources.
